Veteran James 'Lindy' Presson Dies at 97 After P&G Career
James 'Lindy' Presson, a 97-year-old man from Iowa City, passed away on August 24, 2026, in Brentwood, Tennessee. Born in 1929 in Tennessee to Millard A. and Willa Mae Presson, Lindy grew up with four siblings. After graduating from McKenzie High School, he joined the Air Force in 1947, serving until 1950. Following his military service, Lindy attended Bethel College, where he met his future wife Carol. They married in November 1952.
The couple moved to Iowa City in early 1957 when Procter & Gamble began to place its employees in other areas. Lindy worked as an industrial engineer and later became an employment specialist at the company, retiring after 40 years of service. He was highly involved in his church, serving as an elder for over 50 years and teaching various classes.
Lindy enjoyed traveling, completing his bucket list of visiting all 50 states by visiting Hawaii at the age of 89. He was also an avid gardener and loved to take classes at the University of Iowa, including a course in conversational Spanish. Lindy's family includes four children, nine grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.
A funeral service will be held on September 26, 2026, at Gay & Ciha Funeral and Cremation Service in Iowa City, where memorial donations may be made to the Kirkwood Avenue Church of Christ or Mercy Ships.org.
