Veteran Michael Douglas Johnson Passes Away in Falls City
Michael Douglas Johnson, a 71-year-old resident of Falls City, Nebraska, passed away on September 7, 2026. Born in Bakersfield, California, on June 18, 1955, to Morris and Alice (Garvin) Johnson, Mike grew up with a strong sense of duty. He enlisted in the United States Air Force on August 26, 1974, at Los Angeles, CA, serving as an air cargo specialist and seeing action during the Vietnam War in Guam.
After his honorable discharge from the military on March 31, 1976, Mike began a new chapter in his life. He worked as a cook before transitioning to the mental health profession. As a counselor at Kern County Mental Health Hospital, he helped others cope with their struggles. Later, he joined the Salvation Army to support recovering addicts and eventually found employment at Home Depot.
On August 31, 2012, Mike married Rose Martinez at Indian Cave State Park, where they would go on to make Falls City their home. He is survived by his wife, Rose; daughter, Sarah Kreitzer; grandchildren, Vickie Ann Kreitzer and Conner L. Kreitzer; and step-grandson, Garriden Brandt. His mother, Alice Tucker; grandparents, Ruby and Ray Garvin; and sister, Jacci Ricardo, predeceased him.
