Veteran Michael Joseph Janis Passes Away at Age Unknown
Michael Joseph Janis, a native Phoenician and Vietnam War veteran, passed away on April 30th at an undisclosed age. He was preceded in death by his parents, Joe and Josephine Janis of Phoenix, and his brother Tom Janis.
Janis served several months on sea duty during the war, receiving the National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal One Bronze Star upon his honorable discharge. After his military service, he embarked on a 28-year career at Motorola in Phoenix as a Production Control Manager, which allowed him to travel extensively around the world.
Janis continued working after leaving Motorola, spending two years with Maricopa County nurses and finishing his career at Honeywell Tempe, where he retired at age 66. He was an avid outdoorsman and enjoyed various activities such as baseball, hunting, fishing, camping, golfing, and bowling.
Janis is survived by his wife Dorothy, daughter Andrea (Larry) Winters, three grandchildren Adam, Will, and Jenna, brother Bob (Patty) Janis, son Bobby (Audrey), and their two children Nolan and Avila. A memorial in remembrance of Michael's life will be held on May 30th at Bunker Family Garden Chapel Mesa, followed by later internment at the National Memorial Cemetery of Arizona.
