Vietnam Airlines 787 Damaged During Troubled Takeoff from Munich
A Vietnam Airlines Boeing 787-9 suffered damage during takeoff from Munich Airport on August 15, forcing it to return to the German airport after two hours in the air.
The aircraft, VN-A867, was operating flight VN34 from Munich to Hanoi. It entered service with Vietnam Airlines in April 2016 and has been flying for over 10 years.
The plane used nearly the entire 4,000-meter runway before becoming airborne, raising suspicions that it went beyond the paved surface during rotation. A large cloud of dust was seen behind the aircraft during takeoff.
Vietnam Airlines described the incident as a 'technical issue,' but did not provide further details on what caused the abnormal takeoff. The airline stated that the flight crew followed required procedures and that all passengers and crew were safe.
