Vietnam Airlines Boeing 787-9 Experiences Tail Strike at Munich Airport
A Vietnam Airlines Boeing 787-9 was involved in a tail strike incident at Munich Airport on August 15. The aircraft, which was en route to Hanoi with 274 people on board, took off from runway 26L but its tail struck the ground and damaged runway lights about 120 meters past the paved surface.
The pilots reported a tyre pressure warning before takeoff, prompting them to climb to 10,000 feet and circle for 90 minutes to burn off fuel. The aircraft then made two low approaches before landing back on runway 26R, where it trailed smoke from its left main gear upon touchdown.
No injuries were reported in the incident, but emergency crews responded, and the airport temporarily closed a runway for inspection. Germany's Federal Bureau of Aircraft Accident Investigation (BFU) is leading the probe into what caused the delayed rotation.
