Vietnam Airlines Boeing 787-9 Experiences Tailstrike After Taking Off From Munich
A Vietnam Airlines Boeing 787-9 experienced a tailstrike and was forced to make an emergency landing back at Munich Airport on August 15, 2026. The aircraft had taken off from Munich headed for Hanoi but returned shortly after takeoff due to the incident.
The flight tracking data and aviation incident reports indicate that the pilot rotated late, causing the tail of the plane to contact the runway. This resulted in several main-gear tires being severely damaged during the landing roll.
Despite the tire damage, the aircraft was able to decelerate and vacate the runway under its own power. The incident caused temporary disruptions to runway operations at Munich Airport.
