Vietnam Airlines Boeing 787-9 Overruns Munich Runway During Takeoff

A Vietnam Airlines Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner experienced a serious incident during takeoff from Munich Airport on Saturday. The aircraft, VN-A867, was operating a Munich-Hanoi flight (VN-34) when it rotated extremely late and overran the runway by around 120 meters before becoming airborne.

According to preliminary reports, the plane suffered a tailstrike and tyre damage during the incident. After taking off, the crew received a warning about low tyre pressure and decided to dump fuel before returning to Munich Airport.

The aircraft circled for over two hours to burn fuel before making two low approaches to Runway 26R and landing safely. Passengers were evacuated using emergency slides after smoke was seen coming from the left main landing gear.

Vietnam Airlines stated that the flight crew followed all required procedures and landed safely at Munich Airport, with no injuries reported. The airline is coordinating with relevant authorities and parties to inspect the aircraft.
