A Vietnam Airlines Boeing 787-9, registered as VN-A867, was involved in a serious incident at Munich Airport on August 15, 2026. The aircraft was preparing to take off from Runway 26R for a long-haul flight to Hanoi when it overran the end of the runway and suffered a tail strike.

According to reports, the plane had an unusually long takeoff roll and did not become airborne before reaching the end of the paved runway. As it reached the runway overrun area, its main landing gear entered the area beyond the runway, creating dust and debris.

The pilots then flew a holding pattern while preparing for a safe return to the airport. The aircraft dumped fuel to reduce its weight before landing on the northern runway under emergency conditions. Smoke and sparks were visible during the landing.
