Vietnam Airlines Boeing 787 Suffers Tailstrike After Extended Takeoff Run At Munich
A Vietnam Airlines Boeing 787-9 suffered significant damage after an unusually long takeoff run from Munich Airport on August 15. The aircraft, bound for Hanoi, accelerated down Runway 26L for over four kilometers before finally becoming airborne beyond the paved runway area.
The prolonged takeoff led to a tailstrike, causing damage to the aircraft's landing gear and rear fuselage. The crew assessed the situation and reduced the aircraft's weight before returning to Munich Airport two hours later.
No injuries were reported among the passengers or crew, who numbered 271 and 16 respectively. The incident is currently under investigation by German authorities with assistance from Vietnamese investigators.
