Vietnam Airlines Boeing Suffers Tail Strike During Takeoff from Munich
A Vietnam Airlines Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner suffered significant damage after striking its tail on the ground during takeoff from Munich Airport. The incident occurred on August 15, when Flight VN34 was departing for Noi Bai International Airport in Hanoi.
The aircraft overran the runway and damaged runway lights before performing a late rotation. After detecting a tyre pressure issue, the crew decided to return to Munich, where they made two low approaches before landing safely after over two hours airborne.
The passengers were evacuated using slides, with fire brigade personnel present at the scene. The airline confirmed that all crew members followed required procedures and landed safely. A probe led by Germany's Federal Bureau of Aircraft Accident Investigation is likely to be conducted regarding the incident.
