Vietnam Airlines Flight Turns Back Minutes After Take-Off Due to Technical Issue
A Vietnam Airlines flight to Hanoi turned back and returned to Munich just minutes after take-off due to a technical issue. The Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner, VN-A867, departed Munich at 1:57 pm local time on August 15, 2026. However, it did not continue its long-haul flight but instead flew several circuits in the area before returning to Munich.
Flight-tracking data from Flightradar24 showed that the aircraft remained at an altitude of around 9,000 feet and flew low over the runway area before landing safely back at the airport. Firefighters were positioned as a precautionary measure. The direct flight from Munich to Hanoi typically takes around 10-11 hours.
Vietnam Airlines confirmed that the flight returned due to a technical problem and that all passengers and crew members were safe. The airline is coordinating with authorities to determine the specific cause of the incident and will provide further updates once the technical inspection is completed.
