Visa Buys BioCatch for $2.4 Billion to Tackle AI-Powered Scams
Visa has announced its intention to acquire BioCatch for $2.4 billion in cash, as part of a move to strengthen its cybersecurity offerings and combat AI-powered scams.
The deal is expected to close by the end of Visa's fiscal second quarter of 2027 and will see Visa acquire BioCatch from London-based private equity firm Permira and other shareholders.
BioCatch's behavioral biometrics platform analyzes data such as keystroke timing, touch screen pressure, and other signals to distinguish real users from scammers and bots.
Account takeovers and scams cost the global economy over $1 trillion annually, according to Visa President of Value-Added Services Andrew Torre, who stated that BioCatch will help clients 'stop fraud before it reaches the point of payment'.
