Visa Inc.'s recent acquisition of BioCatch for $2.4 billion is part of its efforts to enhance security and expand into new areas of vulnerability, according to CEO Ryan McInerney.

The deal marks Visa's largest security purchase in years, with BioCatch providing behavioral signals to flag identity theft before a payment is attempted.

McInerney stated that while Visa has long helped clients stop fraudulent transactions, 'identity has become a critical area of vulnerability.'

The acquisition is expected to be completed by the end of Visa's fiscal second quarter of 2027, subject to regulatory approval.
