Visa's Stablecoin Settlement Surges to $20 Billion Annual Run Rate
Visa has made significant strides in its stablecoin settlement activity, reaching an annual run rate of $20 billion, a 15-fold increase from last year. This growth is attributed to the integration of VisaNet settlement information with blockchain-based lending platforms, providing fintechs with working capital solutions.
The company's engagement with stablecoins has led to over 160 card programs utilizing these digital assets operating on its infrastructure. Transaction volume from these initiatives has surged nearly 200% compared to the same period last year.
Visa is addressing a critical challenge for stablecoin-based card programs by bridging traditional payment infrastructure with blockchain-powered financing. The company's Head of Crypto, Cuy Sheffield, notes that stablecoins are transforming money movement and opening opportunities to reimagine financial systems supporting payment processing.
