Viva Aerobus' Refund Fiasco

A traveler from California had his refund of $844 sent to the wrong bank after Viva Aerobus canceled his flight.

The airline insisted on a wire transfer instead of simply reversing the charge on his American Express card, which led to a series of banking errors.

When providing the SWIFT code for his Northrop Grumman Federal Credit Union account, the traveler found out that it doesn't use this system.

Viva Aerobus used a different SWIFT code and sent the refund to Navy Federal Credit Union instead, where the funds were rejected due to lack of an account.

The traveler contacted Viva Aerobus several times, as well as filed a complaint with PROFECO, Mexico's consumer protection agency.
