Volta's $10B Compute Deal Brings JPMorgan Credit to Nvidia Ecosystem
Anthropic, the maker of Claude, has secured a $10 billion, six-year compute procurement agreement with Volta Infra Holdings. This deal gives Anthropic access to 121 IT megawatts of Nvidia Vera Rubin capacity at Bitdeer Technologies Group's Tydal data center campus in Norway.
The financial mechanism behind this deal is a $1.3 billion credit backstop from J.P. Morgan affiliates and another unnamed global institution. This is similar to Google's $43.8 billion in data center lease guarantees, which allows former crypto miners to issue investment-grade construction bonds.
Volta Infra Holdings is not a traditional data center operator or chip reseller, but rather provides 'the utility of compute', offering a fully integrated compute platform that assembles the credit support behind each deployment itself.
The Vera Rubin architecture used in this deal matters for Norway specifically because it handles power efficiently. The NVL72 rack is fully liquid-cooled from the chip level, which matches well with Norway's cold climate and hydroelectric power supply.
