Wall Street Stocks Rise Amid US-Iran Conflict and Weakening Jobs Market
Stocks on Wall Street experienced mixed results on Thursday, August 27, as the jobs market and ongoing US-Iran conflict weighed on investors' minds. The S&P 500 index rose 0.6%, while the Dow Jones Industrial Average jumped 270 points, or 0.5%.
Banks led the gains, with JPMorgan Chase increasing by 0.8% and Bank of America rising 1.3%. Dell Technologies also saw a significant increase of 6.9% following its latest financial update.
Oil prices remained relatively stable despite escalating tensions in the Middle East. Brent crude, the international standard, rose 1% to $95.69 per barrel, with energy stocks experiencing mixed results.
The conflict has contributed to higher global shipping costs and a surge in gasoline prices. ADP reported that private-sector employment slipped in August, which could signal a weakening jobs market.
