Walmart Embraces Contactless Payments with Apple Pay and Google Pay Support
Walmart has finally decided to start supporting Apple Pay and Google Pay in its stores. After years of being a holdout, the retail giant will begin accepting contactless payments from eligible cards, phones, and smartwatches starting August 24th at select locations.
The rollout is expected to complete by the end of 2026 for all U.S. stores and clubs, with fuel stations getting on board by mid-2027. According to Walmart, the decision is about giving customers more payment options.
This means that shoppers will be able to use Apple Pay and Google Pay alongside existing alternatives like Walmart Pay and Scan & Go at Sam's Club. The company has been working with other retailers in the past to develop its own mobile payment systems, but it seems they're now embracing the convenience of contactless payments.
