Walmart Finally Joins Modern Era with Apple Pay and Google Pay Support
Walmart has finally decided to accept Apple Pay and Google Pay at its stores, including Walmart and Sam's Club. The retail giant announced that it will begin adding Tap to Pay to its payment options at select locations starting August 24, with the goal of reaching all stores and clubs by the end of the year.
This move marks a significant shift for Walmart, which had previously refused to adopt tap-and-pay technology in favor of its own in-house solutions, like Walmart Pay and Scan-and-Go. The company even teamed up with other retailers in an attempt to take down Apple Pay with their alternative mobile payment system, CurrentC, but the effort ultimately failed.
The decision is seen as a defeat for Walmart, which had believed it could push customers to use its own payment solutions despite the growing adoption of Apple Pay and others. By accepting Apple Pay and Google Pay, Walmart is giving in to consumer demand and acknowledging that its previous approach was disadvantaging its customers.
