Walmart Rolls Out Google Pay for Tap-to-Pay Across US Stores
Walmart is finally embracing tap-to-pay technology by introducing Google Pay at its stores in the US. This move comes after years of holding out on NFC-based payments, with Walmart preferring its own payment system instead.
The service will be available starting August 24th and will allow customers to pay for groceries and everyday essentials using their mobile devices. The initial rollout is limited to select Walmart stores and Sam's Club locations in the US, but the company plans to expand it to all US stores and clubs by the end of 2026.
Walmart says that this move is part of its effort to provide customers with more choice at checkout, making managing and using their money easier. This means that customers will be able to use Google Pay in addition to existing payment options like cash, credit card, and Walmart Pay.
