Walmart Tackles Inflation with Tailgating Treats
Retail giant Walmart (WMT) is gearing up for the start of the College Football season and the return of the National Football League next week. To capitalize on the excitement, its Sam's Club arm has developed a range of new recipes for customers seeking a break from high inflation.
Sam's Club said it 'tapped into the expertise' of its culinary expert, Chef Casey, to create quick and easy game-ready dishes, including Easy Pulled Pork Sliders and Bang-Bang Shrimp Tailgating Skewers. These recipes can be prepared in under 15 minutes.
The Member's Mark Community, an interactive feedback and product co-creation program, found that 'easy' was a recurring theme among customers when it came to tailgating essentials. The top items included chicken wings, fruit and cheese trays, brownie trays, tents, portable power stations, and team-themed blankets.
The top-performing states for Sam's Club item sales volume across licensed college and pro football merchandise from August 2025, February 2026 were Ohio, Georgia, Alabama, Tennessee, and Arkansas (college) and Nevada, Texas, Missouri, Michigan, and Illinois (pro).
