Walmart has finally joined the ranks of retailers embracing Apple Pay and Google Pay. Starting August 24, select stores and Sam's Club locations will accept tap-to-pay transactions using these mobile payment apps.

The rollout is expected to be gradual, with all US stores set to have this feature by the end of the year and all fuel stations by December 2027.

This marks a shift for Walmart, which had previously competed with third-party mobile payment apps through its own service, Walmart Pay. The company has stated that it wants customers to have choice in how they pay, allowing them to check out in their preferred method.
