Walt Disney World Monorail Struck by Lightning, Passengers Left Stuck

A group of people spending the day at Walt Disney World in Florida experienced an unexpected delay on the theme park's iconic monorail. According to Tanya Lee, a passenger who was stuck on the train, it happened on September 8, 2026, when they were headed to EPCOT and the track was reportedly struck by lightning during a round of thunderstorms.

Lee shared video with Storyful showing passengers being instructed on how to remove one of the windows to help with airflow. The delay lasted approximately 90 minutes before power was restored and the monorail was towed back to one of the stations.

'We were there for one and a half hours and during that time the driver talked us through how to take out the window,' Lee said. 'I was nervous as I do not like heights, and I have always been worried about being stuck on one of those [monorails] when I ride them.'

Despite the situation, everyone remained in good spirits. Disney's guest relations cast members met each passenger at the station and gave them cold water, a $50 gift card, and a lightning lane pass.
