Walt Disney World's Massive Construction Projects Prepare for D23 Expo

The Walt Disney World construction projects are heading into D23 Expo 2026, and several major projects are nearing completion. At Magic Kingdom, Villains Land is currently a staging area with land clearing and infrastructure installation underway. The project is expected to be discussed at the expo, with rumors suggesting a Maleficent roller coaster and immersive dark ride may be confirmed.

Another project, Piston Peak National Park, is nearing completion, with crews installing below-ground infrastructure and building a massive tower crane for attraction construction. The first section of the crane's base has been poured, and crews are working to get it buried.

The Carousel of Progress is closed for refurbishment, with permit tracking revealing extensive work taking place inside the theater. Disney may share new concept art or details at the D23 Expo. Additionally, a Space Mountain reimagining remains a rumor but could be announced soon, involving significant changes to the attraction's track and queue.

Other projects include the Magic Kingdom ferryboat dock expansion, with construction moving into the Seven Seas Lagoon itself. Disney is also building a fourth ferryboat to service the route between the parking lot and front gate.
