Waymo Establishes Spanish Subsidiary Amidst Autonomous Car Boom

Google's autonomous car business, Waymo, has established a subsidiary in Spain called Waymo Iberia SL. The company was officially registered on July 14 and is located in an office on Serrano Street in Madrid with an initial capital of 100,000 euros.

This move is part of a larger strategy by Waymo to expand its presence in Europe, with subsidiaries already established in the Netherlands, France, and other regions such as Asia. The company's representatives in Spain include Steven Hahn, deputy secretary, and Francis Kelly, financial executive.

Waymo plans to test its autonomous cars in Madrid before the end of the year, while Uber is also set to begin testing its own autonomous vehicles in the city. Waymo has secured a new Spanish company that can provide transport services through autonomous vehicles and participate in providing services that support commercial offerings by third parties.

This move comes as Waymo continues to expand its presence globally, with deployments planned for London and Tokyo, among other cities. The company's expansion plans have been accelerated due to the international boom of these services and the ongoing competition between Google and Uber.
