Wellington Management Group Abandons NewAmsterdam Pharma Stake
NewAmsterdam Pharma (NAMS) shares are plummeting after a regulatory filing revealed that Wellington Management Group has offloaded nearly all of its holdings. The selling comes as investors become increasingly cautious due to fresh competition from Merck's newly approved cholesterol drug.
The investment firm unloaded approximately 4.9 million shares, representing more than 95% of its stake in NAMS. This sudden exit has put pressure on the stock, which is already experiencing volatility ahead of the company's upcoming presentation at the Wells Fargo Healthcare Conference and key milestones for its obicetrapib trial.
Despite today's decline, some analysts point to encouraging European regulatory momentum for obicetrapib and a partnership with Menarini that could ease commercialization while limiting upfront build-out costs. However, NewAmsterdam remains a clinical-stage company with significant operating losses and limited recurring revenue, relying heavily on securing funding and successfully transitioning its product from trials into profitability.
