Wellness Project Integrates with Google Health Ahead of Fitbit API Retirement
Google has announced that it will retire the legacy Fitbit Web API in September 2026 as part of its transition to Google Health. This change affects developers who have integrated their apps with Fitbit, requiring them to migrate to Google's new OAuth infrastructure and request new scopes for health data.
Wellness Project, an AI-powered health and fitness platform, has completed the verification process for its integration with Google Health and is positioned to support users through this transition. The platform allows users to connect their Google account and sync supported Fitbit and Pixel Watch data alongside information from other health tools they use.
The result is a longitudinal health record that remains useful even as devices, platforms, and AI tools change. Wellness Project founder Bryan Barash said, 'People spend years building a health history, but that history is often trapped across different devices and apps.'
