Wells Fargo Joins Blockchain Revolution with Tokenized Deposits
Wells Fargo has launched tokenized deposits for select corporate clients, joining JPMorgan and Citi in the effort to modernize cross-border payments. The program allows clients to move money across borders with greater ease and speed using blockchain technology.
The tokenized deposits will be available starting this fall, initially as a US dollar to British pound exchange. By 2027, Wells Fargo plans to expand the service to more clients, countries, and currencies.
Tokenized deposits work similarly to regular bank balances but exist on a blockchain, enabling clients to move money around the clock while maintaining regulatory protections and deposit insurance.
