West Bengal Approves Manganese Reserve Assessment in Jhargram District
The government of West Bengal has given its approval for a reconnaissance survey to assess the manganese reserves in Jhargram district. This initiative comes after the successful oilfield development project in Ashoknagar, marking another mineral exploration effort within the state.
The Directorate of Mines & Minerals granted formal clearance for the fieldwork, which is scheduled to take place from September 15-19, 2026. State-run miner MOIL Limited will lead the operations in coordination with central and state exploration bodies, including the Geological Survey of India (GSI) and Indian Bureau of Mines (IBM).
The reconnaissance survey aims to assess the geological and mineral potential of the identified areas, with the findings to be compiled and submitted by MOIL for further consideration.
