The Wilhide family from Goldsboro, North Carolina, has a personal connection to the Ronald McDonald House of Charities Eastern North Carolina. In 2013, their four-week-old daughter Piper was diagnosed with stage three neuroblastoma and underwent surgeries, chemotherapy, and other treatments.

Ronald McDonald House became a 'home away from home' for the family during this time, providing them with free accommodations while Piper received treatment at ECU Health Medical Center. The house relies heavily on donations to operate, which is why WNCT is hosting its 10th annual telethon on August 14.

The Wilhide family now gives thousands of dollars annually through their organization, Piper's Promise, which hosts events like a golf tournament to raise funds. Haleigh Wilhide recalled praying for her baby's recovery and promising to 'pay it back' and 'pay it forward.' She emphasized that if they can help in any way, they will.
