Wilmington Petitioners Block Amazon's $4 Billion Data Center Plan
A proposed Amazon data center in Wilmington, Ohio is facing opposition from petitioners who are seeking to block its construction. The tech giant plans to build a massive facility covering 1.9 million square feet at an estimated cost of $4 billion on U.S. Route 68.
The project was initially cleared for development after the city council passed ordinances in 2025, but these were later invalidated by a judge due to secrecy surrounding the deal and potential Open Meetings Act violations.
The data center plan has now been revived with new ordinances passed this month, which have rezoned the area for data centers and paved the way for Amazon's project. In response, a group of petitioners is gathering signatures to place a referendum on the November ballot that would effectively block the construction.
