Wiltshire Council Faces Deadline on McDonald's Drive-Through Plans
Wiltshire Council is facing a flurry of submissions as it considers plans for a new McDonald's drive-through on the outskirts of Devizes. The proposal, which would see the demolition of existing buildings and the construction of a 310 sq m restaurant with seating for 50, has sparked both support and opposition.
McDonald's claims that the scheme could create around 120 jobs - 30 full-time and 90 part-time - and generate £50,000, £60,000 per year in business rates. However, objectors have raised concerns over traffic, noise, odour, lighting, litter, and the potential impact on independent town-centre businesses.
Cannings Hill Garage Ltd, the site's owner, has expressed its support for the proposal, stating that it would bring substantial private investment to a brownfield site. The company also emphasized its commitment to ensuring responsible redevelopment and maintaining the site as a valuable commercial asset.
