Windows 11 Crash Bug Linked to RGB Software
Microsoft has identified a culprit behind the recent system instability issues in Windows 11's latest update, KB5121003. According to reports, RGB software installed on affected PCs was interfering with core system components, causing Windows 11 to become unstable.
The issue affects games such as Arc Raiders, Marvel Tokon: Fighting Souls, and The Finals, which exhibit a classic crash pattern. They suddenly hang and become unresponsive, showing an 'EXCEPTION_ACCESS_VIOLATION' blue screen, and force the computer to restart automatically.
Microsoft's investigation found that the RGB software installs drivers or code components with file names similar to 'inpoutx64' to control the RGB lighting features. When a game is launched, inpoutx64 triggers the issue, causing a crash.
The company has not explained the underlying cause but suspects it may be tied to anti-cheat not appreciating a kernel-mode driver in user space.
