Windows 11 Devices Get Extra Security Boost from Microsoft Next Month

Microsoft is set to roll out memory integrity protection by default on more Windows 11 devices next month. The security feature, already enabled on most modern PCs, is designed to safeguard critical parts of Windows from tampering. It's built on Virtualization-based Security (VBS) and helps protect against sophisticated attacks.

The company says that starting in October 2026, Windows quality updates will begin enabling memory integrity protection on eligible devices, which may not have had it enabled before. However, users still have control over whether they want the feature turned on or off. If disabled manually, it won't be automatically re-enabled.

Windows will evaluate a device's readiness before enabling memory integrity to ensure a reliable experience. This change mainly applies to older PCs that never had it enabled initially. The automatic rollout is intended to make devices more secure without any additional setup required.
