Windows 11 Emergency Patch Released After Patch Tuesday Chaos
Microsoft released an emergency patch for Windows 11 after September's Patch Tuesday update introduced several problems, including issues with USB Audio Class 1.0 devices and Remote Desktop Services.
The out-of-band update addresses vulnerabilities in Hyper-V and Remote Desktop Services, but some USB audio devices may still be affected. Users were told that Microsoft is working on a resolution for these devices, which can display 'This device cannot start (Code 10)' in Device Manager or have unresponsive volume controls.
The cumulative update also includes protections for CVE-2026-62721, an elevation-of-privilege vulnerability in the Windows User-Mode Power Service. Additionally, Microsoft has yet to issue a fix for September's security updates that broke the Paste function in Excel on some installations.
