Windows 11 File Explorer Context Menu Gets Major Redesign
Microsoft has redesigned the Windows 11 File Explorer context menu to make it faster and more adaptable to individual workflows. The update, announced on August 17, is now rolling out to Windows Insiders as part of Microsoft's broader quality initiative for Windows 11.
The new design reduces clutter in the top-level menu by default, improving opening speed. Users can still access additional options through configuration settings and a new Customize menu shortcut that opens a dedicated Settings page under Personalization.
According to Microsoft, recent engineering work has eliminated dozens of potential stalls and interruptions affecting File Explorer. The company says users should see fewer freezes and flashes when browsing folders, renaming files, navigating directories, and selecting multiple items.
