Windows 11 Finally Offers Permanent Opt-Out for OneDrive Backup

Microsoft has made changes to Windows 11's OneDrive backup prompts, adding an 'Opt out of backup' option for users who don't want their files automatically backed up.

This change addresses long-standing criticism that users couldn't permanently reject the feature. Previously, users could only postpone reminders or choose between 'Continue' and 'Skip for now,' but skipping didn't act as a permanent rejection.

The new option is available in Windows 11 25H2 and is part of Microsoft's effort to give users more control over OneDrive features. This move follows recent changes, such as the addition of an uninstall option for the OneDrive Photos app after user backlash.

Microsoft continues to work on improving its cloud backup services, including a new OneDrive Sync Engine designed to speed up file syncing.
