Windows 11 Gains Battery Status Widget
Microsoft is working on a new feature for Windows 11 that will display the status of devices connected to a PC, including their battery percentage. The new widget, which has been discovered in the latest Windows 11 preview builds, will be available on the Widget Board and can also be placed on the lock screen. It features light and dark mode themes and will show devices in a vertical list, starting with the PC's battery at the top.
The widget will include an icon representing each peripheral, along with its name and the battery percentage. It will also indicate when a device is charging or if it has energy saver enabled or disabled. This feature is similar to those found on Android and iOS devices, which have had battery widgets for years.
While the new widget is a welcome addition to the Widgets Board, some users may argue that more system-level widgets are needed. Ideas like checking current CPU or memory usage could be useful additions in the future.
