Windows 11 Gets Major Update with 35 Fixes and New Security Feature
Microsoft has released a new update for Windows 11, version KB5120998, which includes 35 changes and fixes. The update is available as an optional preview cumulative update for Windows 11 versions 25H2 and 24H2.
The update brings several improvements to the Start menu, taskbar, and Windows search. Users can now move the taskbar to different positions on their screen, such as bottom, top, left, or right side. The update also adds a new smaller taskbar option that reduces the taskbar height and icon size.
Microsoft has also started rolling out the administrator protection security feature, which allows users to perform admin tasks using just-in-time privileges. This feature is turned off by default and can be enabled through Group Policy or Microsoft Intune.
The update will upgrade Windows 11 25H2 and 24H2 devices to builds 26200.9278 and 26100.9278, respectively. The August 2026 preview update includes several other changes, such as automatic indexing of most-used folders and improved restart behavior.
