Windows 11 May Get Its First Modern Cursor Redesign
Microsoft may be working on a redesigned pointer for Windows 11, according to a recent update. The Experimental Windows 11 build released September 8 includes an official Microsoft screenshot showing the new Resume hovercard, but it surprisingly shows a new mouse pointer.
The new cursor is slightly broader and softer around the lower-left side compared to the traditional Windows arrow. It also appears more symmetrical without the thin tail-like extension that has been present for decades in Windows.
Microsoft hasn't officially announced any changes to the system cursor, but a recent report from June suggested that the company was internally testing a new Windows 11 mouse pointer as part of its modernization effort. The resemblance between the new cursor and the Fluent icon in Microsoft's UI System Icons repository is noticeable, but it's not enough to prove that Windows has adopted it.
Windows 11 has undergone significant changes over the past year, replacing old Settings pages, dialogs, and File Explorer pieces with modern WinUI. However, the pointer's shape has remained largely unchanged, with customization limited to size, color, and pointer schemes.
