Microsoft is set to automatically enable Memory Integrity on compatible computers running Windows 11 from October. The feature, also known as Hypervisor-protected Code Integrity (HVCI), enhances kernel protection by moving kernel code verification into an isolated environment.

The use of virtualisation may reduce frame rates and affect performance in certain games. In independent tests, ComputerBase recorded a 6 per cent drop in average frame rate and an 8 per cent increase in frame time after enabling HVCI on a system with a Ryzen 7 5800X and a Radeon RX 7900 XTX.

Microsoft clarifies that Memory Integrity will be automatically enabled via monthly Windows updates from October 2026. The company does not promise a complete absence of performance losses, but will check the performance of each device before automatic activation.
