Windows 11 Update Breaks Audio for Some Users
Windows 11 users have been hit with another major issue after Microsoft's latest September security update, causing audio problems on some PCs. The KB5124008 update has been linked to unresponsive sound controls and an absence of sound altogether.
The issue is reportedly affecting USB Audio Class 1.0 devices, but built-in motherboard analogue audio codecs and wireless headsets are said to be safe. Users experiencing the problem can check their Device Manager logs for the 'This device cannot start (Code 10)' error.
Microsoft has confirmed that it's working on a fix and recommends switching from 8-channel or 3D audio modes to stereo as a temporary workaround. The company has also acknowledged gameplay issues, including crashes, freezes, errors, and unexpected device restarts caused by the update.
