Windows 11 Update Brings New Features, Refinements, and AI Control Options
Microsoft's August Windows 11 update has gone live, bringing significant improvements to various aspects of the operating system. The company is introducing new features such as Windows Hello Enhanced Sign-in Security (ESS) support for external fingerprint sensors and the ability to uninstall AI models from Copilot+ PCs.
The update includes refinements to File Explorer, with improved file size displays in the Details view and enhancements to the Home page, including a gray flash bug fix on loading and scrolling. Windows Search has also been tweaked to better handle typos and recognize partial names when searching for apps.
Microsoft is also addressing user concerns about AI features by allowing users to uninstall the Image Generation AI model from Settings > System > AI Components. This is seen as a small step towards giving users more control over AI components on Windows 11.
