Windows 11 Version 26H2 Brings Movable Taskbar and Cloud Recovery Defaults
Windows 11 version 26H2 is set to arrive as an enablement package in October 2026, building on the Germanium platform used by 24H2 and 25H2.
This update brings a range of new features, including a movable taskbar that can be placed on any edge of the screen, with reduced icon sizes available. The Start menu is also gaining more configuration options, such as size presets and toggles to show or hide certain sections.
Search functionality is being updated to work more like a local search tool, prioritizing apps, settings, and local files over web results. A switch will be added to turn off web results entirely, allowing for predictable search on devices where this is necessary.
The update also includes new cloud recovery defaults for managed PCs outside the EU's Digital Markets Act, automatically saving configuration settings and the Microsoft Store app list upon reset or reimage.
