Windows 95's Naked Baby Hologram Sparks Rare Packaging Find

A rare discovery has been made in the world of Windows 95 packaging. A blog post by Microsoft's Raymond Chen reveals that there were two different holograms on old boxes of Windows 95. The original design featured a baby sitting, which would point at the Microsoft logo on the monitor when moved. However, the baby was depicted as not wearing any clothes, leading to complaints from an unnamed government.

The government in question felt that the baby's exposed state was unacceptable and asked Microsoft to change it. In response, the company released a second batch of boxes with a revised hologram, this time dressing the baby in overalls and a shirt. However, due to the rushed production schedule, the new hologram did not point at the logo.

The original half-clothed baby hologram has become a rare collector's item, with some owners proudly showcasing it as a unique find. Chen notes that this design flaw was a result of the company's attempt to create an anti-piracy measure, which would be difficult to replicate even if one tried to counterfeit the packaging.

In his 2003 blog post, Chen humorously observed that owning a Windows 95 box with the unclothed baby hologram made it a genuine collector's item. Now, over 20 years later, this unusual design has resurfaced due to a YouTube video posted by a user.
