Windows Update Causes Mouse Settings and Desktop Background Issues
The KB5120998 update for Windows 11 has been causing problems for some users. Microsoft initially acknowledged an issue with mouse settings, but further investigation revealed that the problem is more complex.
According to Microsoft, the issue is caused by code components used in non-English Windows installations. In these cases, mouse settings fail to load, and a default setting is applied instead.
This is not the only problem with the update. Microsoft has also confirmed reports of users losing desktop settings after installing KB5120998.
In addition to mouse settings, some users are experiencing issues with desktop backgrounds, which are displaying as a solid black color. The company acknowledges that this is due to the update and is working on a fix, but no resolution is available yet.
