WM Teams with Caterpillar on Autonomous Landfill Compactor Test

WM is pushing forward in its quest to create the landfill of the future by collaborating with Caterpillar on testing an autonomous landfill compactor.

This effort builds on a successful pilot project using remote-controlled heavy equipment, which WM began operating at its Marana, Arizona landfill in late 2025.

The remote-controlled technology, known as Cat Command, allowed for enhanced operational efficiency and productivity, improved employee safety, and increased visibility with strategically positioned cameras providing a 360-degree view.

Caterpillar's autonomous compactor is the next step in this journey towards more advanced solutions in landfill operations.
