'Wonder Man' Canceled Due to High Cost-Per-Minute Ratio
Disney's decision to cancel 'Wonder Man,' a Marvel Studios streaming original series, has sparked interest in its viewership data. Despite having ordered a second season months earlier, Disney pulled the plug on the show.
A closer look at the available viewership data reveals that 'Wonder Man' was a borderline case, performing decently but not exceptionally well. According to Luminate Streaming Viewership, it ranked as the second most-watched Disney+ original TV season by both minutes streamed and estimated season views in the first half of 2026.
However, when examining its cost-per-minute streamed ratio, 'Wonder Man' fell short. With a ratio of 0.041 for its first 12 weeks of availability, it was higher than expected given its relatively modest budget of $7M-$10M per episode. In comparison, more expensive series like 'Andor,' 'Ironheart,' and 'Secret Invasion' had even lower ratios.
Furthermore, an analysis of the show's retention rate showed a 48% drop-off in views from premiere to finale over its first 12 weeks. This is below the threshold of 53% or higher that new Disney+ series typically need to be considered safe from cancellation.
