The leaked material reportedly bundles in a second initiative: a disc-to-digital program that would let owners of physical Xbox 360 discs convert them into digital licenses. The document references testing and general-availability windows for this conversion tool, separate from the emulation timeline.
Microsoft's emulator will handle the compatibility layer, lowering the cost of reviving old titles compared to traditional remasters or native ports. This strategy extends an existing Microsoft program called Xbox Play Anywhere, which lets players buy a game once and play it on both Xbox consoles and Windows PC.
