Xbox Bans Players for Fraudulent Game Codes, Raises Regional Restrictions Concerns
Microsoft has faced backlash after banning several Xbox players in Japan and China. According to the company, users were suspended for redeeming fraudulent game codes purchased through reseller channels.
Xbox CTO Scott Van Vliet revealed that legitimate players had unknowingly bought and redeemed compromised keys, which led to their account bans.
The affected players' accounts have since been reinstated after an investigation by the Xbox support team.
Microsoft's advice for avoiding future suspensions is to purchase games and codes from authorized retailers. However, some Japanese players argue that this response doesn't address a larger issue of regional restrictions on game availability in Japan and China.
